It was a celebration of a major milestone at the Chapel of Christ Our Light, University of Lagos on Saturday, August 12, 2023 as the former General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, and founder of the Refreshing International Ministries, Rev. Gabriel Olusoji Farombi clocked 85 years.
In a world, especially in this part, where life expectancy is hitting its lowest ebbs, being alive for over eight decades is a rare privilege that only few are able to enjoy.
Family members, including his wife, friends and fellow church members from home and abroad were all present, both physically and virtually, to celebrate a man whose life has been described as a shinning light which has helped others to discover their purpose, both in ministry and personal pursuits.
After he encountered the Lord at the age of 20, Rev. Farombi enjoyed the uncommon privilege of being in God’s service for almost seven decades. His godly principles, faith and good works have endeared him to many.
The event attracted prominent personalities such as Pastor Sunday Akande, the National Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Rev. Sam Aboyeji, the current General Overseer, Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, and many others.
A time alloted for testimonies gave many present to testify about how the man of God greatly influenced them positively. While some described him as a man of prayer, others saw Rev. Farombi as someone who is always willing to help others in need, attributes that have attracted to him respect among the foursquare family and other people around the world.
For the current General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church, Rev. Aboyeji the celebrant is a man of godly character and a prayer warrior. Yet others testified of how God had used Rev. Farombi to restore their marriages in times of crisis.
Those who were privileged to know him earlier in life spoke about how God used him to shape their destinies through godly counsel and support.
Even at 85, Rev. Farombi still leads a global prayer ministry, Refreshing Ministry International (RMI).
The event was also used to mark the fifth anniversary of the Gabriel Olusoji Farombi Foundation (GOFF), which he founded on his 80th birthday, with the mission to help the less privileged and people living with disabilities in the society. Since inception, the GOFF foundation has been able to provide financial support to students, the people living with disabilities and economically challenged persons in the society.
At his 85th birthday celebration, bank cheques of several amounts ranging from one hundred thousand to two hundred and fifty thousand naira were presented to the new beneficiaries of the GOFF.
The chairman of GOFF, Elder Tunde Odumosu said the mission of the
organisation is to cater for and give hope to the helpless regardless of tribe or religious affiliation.
